A Zombie Guide, Of Corpse!

31 12 2007

Just had a late Christmas present in today’s post. My signed copy of “A Zombie Guide, Of Corpse!” by C.D. Brenizer.

I reckon we’ll have a review of this during the next podcast.

Hybrid carp with “human faces”

30 12 2007

Positively Boschian.

Hybrid carp with “human faces” - Boing Boing:

“A Korean newscast reports on a hybrid breed of carp with “human faces.” Not exactly human, but helllp-meeee freaky Fly enough to give me the willies.”

iPods Being Replaced With “Strange Notes”

30 12 2007

Think Dissident.

iPods Being Replaced With “Strange Notes” « Operation Awakening:

“A little girl thought she was getting an iPod for Christmas but ended up getting a rude surprise. She got the box but when she opened it up, she found a surprising switch: the iPod had been replaced with a bizarre note.”

Christmas Punch-ups

29 12 2007

It must the time of year. The Guardian carries this story about a punch-up on an Antarctic base, leaving one person with a broken jaw. The Beeb tops that with a report of a dust-up between rival Christian groups in no lesser place than The Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.

Season of good will?

Synthetic Skin Clothing

28 12 2007

Whatever you say Olivier.

To the rest of us, it’s a material that looks like skin. There’s a bunch of bags, hats and other accessories made from it. Cool, and weird at the same time.

SkinBag:

“SkinBag is a material created by Olivier Goulet, french transmedia artist whose vision is in the crossroads of activism and human design. Through the examination of the emotional body, Olivier decodes the principle of identity. He questions the inherited riddle of humanity, and concludes that contemporary humans are not accomplished.”

Tiger escapes, kills zoo visitor

27 12 2007

Sounds like somebody might have seriously messed up here. Criminal investigation under way.

BBC NEWS | World | Americas | US zoo baffled by tiger’s escape:

“Investigators are trying to establish how a tiger escaped from its grotto at San Francisco Zoo and attacked three visitors, killing one.”

MoD to release British UFO documents

27 12 2007

It’s going to take three years, starting next Spring. Sounds highly interesting. I wonder if it will be possible to correlate these documents with findings from France’s OVNI files?

MoD to open British UFO X-files - Telegraph:

“Top-secret details about hundreds of sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects are to be released for public viewing in response to the nation’s continuing fascination with the subject.”

What’s it like to be water-boarded?

26 12 2007

Torture or not? How bad is Waterboarding?

One man tried it on himself to find out. You can read about his experience here.

The Curio #19: Christmas, Whiskey and Incurable Ham

21 12 2007

A cosy fireside journey through Christmases Past, Present and Yet To Come. Aided and abetted by a rather nice bottle of malt. Yes - I’m drunk in charge of a podcast.

Show links:

Music from the Podshow Podsafe Music Network is Cat Jahnke, with “Gloria”.

And yes, I missed out show #18. Which is why you shouldn’t podcast and drink scotch at the same time.

Merry Christmas!

The Running Dead

21 12 2007

We’ve got more fast zombies in the new film “I Am Legend” (presumably based upon Richard Matheson’s book). But why are they so fast these days?

How did movie zombies get so fast? - By Josh Levin - Slate Magazine:

“It wasn’t long ago that the cinematic undead obeyed the first law of corpse locomotion: A zombie might bleed on you, bite you, or rip out your ribcage, but wouldn’t beat you in the 40-yard dash.”
